چکیده
In this paper a novel approach is proposed which combines simultaneously advantages both of pulse (PT) and modulated (MT) infrared thermography. In a nondestructive evaluation perspective, the specimen is pulse-heated as in PT and the mix of frequencies of the thermal waves launched into the specimen are unscrambled by performing the Fourier transform of the temperature evolution over the field of view. Of interest is the maximum phase image with many attractive features: deeper probing, less influence of surface infrared and optical characteristics, rapid image recording (pulse heating, surface-wide inspection), possibility to inspect high thermal conductivity specimens. Several results are presented and the theory is discussed as well.

Applications of Pulse Phase Thermography
Recently, a novel approach was proposed which combines advantages of both pulse (PT) and modulated (MT) infrared thermography. In a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) perspective, the specimen is pulse-heated as in PT and the rnix offrequencies ofthe thermal waves launched into the specimen are unscrambled by perforrning the Fourier transform of the temperature time evolution over the field of vie...
متن کاملNondestructive Evaluation of Plexiglas Materials Using Lock-in and Pulse Phase Infrared Thermography
− Lock-in and pulse phase infrared thermography measurement techniques have been exploited for quantitative assessment of subsurface defects in a reference specimen made of Plexiglas. Radiometric thermal images were post-processed using a contrast approach in the frequency domain, allowing defect depth location to be resolved with a relative combined standard uncertainty of about 7% for thickne...
متن کاملNon-destructive Evaluation of Composites Materials by Pulsed-phase Thermography: Depth Inversion
This work is focused in the application of Pulsed-Phase Thermography (PPT) to non-destructive evaluation of composite materials. In this approach, the composite sample is heated by a thermal pulse briefly and recording the surface temperature decay with an infrared camera. Data processing and depth inversion is carried out by extracting and analyzing the response of the sample on the frequency ...
متن کاملThe Role of Infrared Thermography in Nondestructive testing of Civil Engineering Structures
In Civil Engineering, the application of infrared thermography is not limited to passive investigations of the quality of thermal insulation of building envelopes. Basic principles of the two main techniques of active infrared thermography, which are pulse thermography (PT) and Lock-in thermography (LT), are briefly recalled. In this paper, the use of passive infrared thermography technique for...
متن کاملDetection of Subsurface Defects using Active Infrared Thermography
Active infrared thermography is a widely used technique in the field of nondestructive testing. The subsurface defects produce non-uniform heat dissipation and this phenomenon is captured by an infrared camera. The phase image gives a prominent description of the defects which are not visible in the captured image sequence. The effect of non-uniform heating and the variation in surface emissivi...
